Your Own Personal Messi (You Are Already Manifesting)

A World Cup goal, an assist from the Universe, and what it means to believe before the proof

This caught my eye when reading an article on ESPN about the World Cup semi-finals yesterday when Argentina beat England:

“This is incredible, it’s truly incredible,” [Lautaro] Martínez said. “I dreamed it, I swear. I told Alexis [Mac Allister] I was going to score a goal; I told Facu Medina that I was going to come on and win the match.”

As reported by ESPN: “Lionel Messi, who assisted the first goal, again played supplier for the second. His cross to the far post was met by substitute Lautaro Martínez, who headed the winning goal into the net from close range in the second minute of stoppage time.”

Martínez dreamed it. He believed it. Some would say he manifested it, others that he created this reality.

Have you ever had such a belief in something it had no other option but to manifest?

I felt that way when we sold our home two years ago. I had such a vision and belief in the whole process, from how much we wanted for the home, who we wanted the buyers to be, and how we wanted the process to go down. I held onto it with such conviction – because I had unwavering belief in our home and its worth. I adored that home. I knew the love that it held, the high energy it contained, the stories and memories that unfolded throughout the year, the witnessing of a family who deeply loved each other as we grew and evolved together.

I knew what I wanted with that sale. And I got it. It was exactly what I envisioned … Actually, it was even better. (Read “And Just Like That … We Sold Our House”)

Fearless faith, non-resistance, and flow.

This isn’t the first time I’ve watched this play out in my own life. Long before the house, there was my husband.

Recently I thought about the unwavering belief I had when we first became sweethearts. We had been friends for a year, until we realized we were in love with each other. But to move us from friends into sweethearts wasn’t exactly smooth. In retrospect, as he has shared with me, he was nervous about moving out of the friend zone because he knew that if we became a couple at age 26, that was it. He knew he had found his wife… but was he ready for that? So there was a little push and pull on his end: Yes let’s be sweethearts/No let’s just be friends.

I knew he was nervous. I also knew we would be great together. But, I didn’t resist the push and pull. I just knew it was right.

The less I resisted and went with the flow, the more he was like a magnet to me. (Hi honey, if you’re reading this! I love you!)

The push and pull didn’t last for too long, and through it I was able to have a sense of humor about it. (His cousin and I called him the Waffleator because he kept waffling back and forth about what he wanted.)

And well, let’s just say, 30 years together, 26 years married, I knew without a doubt what was meant to be. (And truthfully I know he did too.)

Fearless faith, non-resistance, and flow.

The reason I’m looking at all of this is because there’s something to this.

Manifesting is a fancy way of saying creating. Every day we’re creating our lives. (I also believe that we make soul contracts before we come into body, with certain experiences our soul wants to have in this lifetime. We also have free will, so it’s not all totally written in stone what the outcome will be.)

I know there are people, places, things, or experiences in your life where you’ve held a vision and have brought that vision to life – when you had that unwavering belief.

Like Martínez who dreamed he was going to score a goal and win that match.

I think about this because there are pockets in my life where I want to bring more of this type manifesting and creating into play. To have unwavering belief in myself. I know it’s within me – and I know it’s within you, too. So what holds us back?

We all have within us old stories and beliefs that keep us stuck in many ways. Our ego is doing its job, thinking it’s keeping us safe, when really it’s keeping us complacent.

We might be amazing in certain aspects of our life (maybe it’s love), but have greater challenges in others (such as money). Maybe it’s the story that says you’re only allowed to succeed in one area of life at a time. Old stories, still running the show.

I recently heard about a manifestation coach named Papi DiNuzzo, and I’ve found myself getting more curious about the Law of Attraction and how all of this actually works. He says that unwavering belief is one of the major keys to manifestation.

What blocks us? Oh, just the old usuals: doubt, fear, worry, anxiety… and also? Staying in our comfort zones.

I am beginning to dig into this more: believing in the power I have to create my most meaningful life – in all areas.

If you’re in the spirituality zone like me (and I imagine you are if you’re reading this), you know that this is not something we can muscle through with our mind alone. This is about knowing that we have an amazing partner who is on our side and wants to help us live the highest version of ourselves. Who is like, “Yes sister or brother, you’ve got this! Do it! Dream it! Believe it! Let’s make things happen. And if they don’t happen the way you may think you want, that’s because we are redirecting you to something better.”

That partner is the Universe / Divine Source / Infinite Intelligence / God / Greater Consciousness – whatever name you best like to use.

But let’s not get tripped up on a name. Whatever works for you, use it. The important thing here is to connect with something.

This life we lead is a team sport. We have amazing guidance and support.

We are already creating our lives. Now it’s just about becoming conscious creators.

The trick is, we need to know what we want. Have a goal. As DiNuzzo says, a goal is needed for growth. Have something to reach for.

Martínez didn’t just hope he’d score. He told his teammates he would, before it happened. He put it out loud into the universe and then went and got it.

“I dreamed it, I swear. I told Alexis [Mac Allister] I was going to score a goal; I told Facu Medina that I was going to come on and win the match.”

But he didn’t do it alone. He got the assist from Messi.

Think of the Universe as your own personal Messi – running alongside you, watching for the exact moment to send the ball your way. Your job isn’t to score every goal by yourself. It’s to believe enough, and prepare enough, that when the cross comes, you’re in position to meet it.

Dream it. Envision it. Then go be the reason it happens.
