7 Questions to Ask Yourself to Help Find Calm When Everything Feels Unstable
And why embracing simplicity, stability, surrender, and stillness is needed right now
In times of instability, chaos, or transitions, we look to things to ground us. We look to anchors and a way back to peace. For some, it’s connecting with a loving friend, or perhaps it’s committing to a meditation practice. For some it’s reading spiritual texts, or maybe it’s automatic writing, or getting it all out onto paper through morning pages a la The Artist’s Way.
At the crux of all of this is the concept of the Sacred Heart (as discussed in The Freedom Transmissions), which reminds us that no matter what’s happening around us, there's a place within where we can connect to an internal peaceful space. This is our heart center. It’s our foundation for embodying peace, love, and freedom.
The Sacred Heart is not just a metaphorical place but a gateway—a center that unites us with the energies of Simplicity, Stability, Surrender, and Stillness. These four chambers of the heart are what grounds us and guides us.
Simplicity helps us shed what’s unnecessary; Stability keeps us feel rooted amidst change; Surrender teaches us faith in a higher order; and Stillness brings us to the quiet where true peace resides.
(To hear me discuss this in depth, listen to this ⬇️ episode on Hold the Light. )
What I love about this is how it brings us back to the internal journey. We aren’t able to control everything externally (don’t we wish, though!) — but we can learn to cultivate these energies within. When we begin to embody Simplicity, Stability, Surrender, and Stillness, we’re not as easily thrown by the chaos around us. (Well, that’s the hope, at least.) But to embody it, we’ve got to do the work. It’s a daily thing, dare I say a minute-by-minute thing. Oh, how easily I can get knocked out of alignment — you, too? So we begin, and begin again. This is our commitment to ourselves. Yes, it take discipline and devotion. Just like we commit to brushing our teeth everyday because that’s one way to care for ourselves, having a practice where we connect to some kind of universal love is another way.
Life is challenging, but when we’re operating from a place of wholeness and connection, having a practice where we can tap into our sacred heart gives us resilience and grace. Where to find connection? Meditation, writing, horses, dogs, laughter, stars, moon, ocean, trees, music, poetry, art, circles with fellow seekers, and all these lovely things help us to be in communion.
This pathway invites us to prioritize inner peace over external situations. Even when the world feels like it’s spinning out of control, these energies—if we choose to live from them—can bring us back to our center. They remind us of our worthiness, of our divine connection, and of the possibility of something better for ourselves and our world. Embracing the energies simplicity, stability, surrender, and stillness help us to rest our worried, worried heart.
I write about this because it helps me to remember.
